Update: There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding Google’s decision kill off their Google+ social media service.
If you have never used Google+ this change won’t affect you in any way. And if you don’t know exactly what Google+ is you have almost certainly never used it.
And this change won’t affect Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, Google Drive or any other Google service.
I will ONLY affect Google+ and nothing else.
Note: The original post continues below…
Do you or someone you know have a Google+ account?
If so, you need to know that Google will be shutting down the consumer version of the Google+ platform on April 2, 2019.
That means if you have photos and/or videos that you don’t want to lose stored in a non-business Google+ account you’ll need to download them to your computer before April 2 or they’ll be gone forever!
This move doesn’t really come as a surprise. Google struggled to build a user base for Google+ from day one and the service never really gained much traction.
Last October Google announced their intention to shutter Google+ by August 2019. Well, it appears they’ve decided to do it much sooner than that and some people will likely be caught off-guard.
To be fair, they did say BY August 2019, not IN August 2019. But still, few people thought it would happen as early as April.
Bottom line: If you have photos and/or videos stored on Google+ that you don’t want to lose you’ll need to download them to your computer before April 2. Google has supplied instructions for doing that on this page.
Important: If you know any other Google+ users please let them know this is going to happen.
