With more people now use mobile devices to access the Internet than laptops or desktop computers, I’m always on the lookout for best mobile web browsers.
Opera Mini has been my favorite mobile browser for a good while now, but I’m beginning to re-think that choice now that I’ve used Microsoft Edge for Android for a while.
Microsoft included their new Edge browser as a replacement for the much-maligned Internet Explorer in Windows 10, and I really like it.
Edge is fast, clean and easy to use. I tend to use multiple browsers simultaneously on my work PC because every browser just seems to work better with specific websites that I use on a daily basis.
However, I’ve recently found myself using Edge more and more on my PC while reducing my dependence on Firefox and Chrome. And why not? I really like it!
But as much as I enjoy using Edge when I’m working, I was initially hesitant to install it on my Android devices because I figured Chrome and Opera Mini would be vastly superior on an Android device to anything that’s available from Microsoft.
Well, I finally broke down and installed Edge for Android on my phone and I quickly fell in love with it!
Just like it’s Windows counterpart, Edge for Android is very clean and fast.
I’ve found that pages load very quickly in Edge (although Opera Mini is still just a tad faster according to my tests) and there is very little unnecessary clutter.
Edge also now has ad blocking technology built right in. It comes disabled by default, but you can easily turn it on in the settings. And since it uses the Adblock Plus engine it works extremely well.
Those factors are important to me, but I found the game changer to be how Edge lets you start a browsing session on one device and pick up right where you left off when you need to switch to a different device.
For example, you can start reading an article on your laptop or desktop PC at home and continue reading it on your phone at the airport while you’re waiting for your plane to arrive.
Bottom line: Microsoft Edge for Android greatly exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations in every way.
Just as they had done with Windows 10 itself, Microsoft really picked up their game when they designed the awesome Edge browser. And that excellence is now evident in the Android mobile app as well.
You’ll find Edge for Android right here in the Google Play Store.
