Hello again. I hope you’re having a fantastic summer!
Windows users have been in a constant struggle against malware for years, and the folks with Apple devices are now being targeted as well.
In fact, more Macs are getting infected with malware all the time. And it’s getting pretty bad for iOS devices as well.
This edition of my newsletter is dedicated to helping you keep your Apple devices completely malware-free.
First, let’s talk about keeping malware off of your Mac…
As with Windows machines, most Mac viruses and other forms of malware (including ransomware) are delivered via malicious emails and infected websites. That’s why it’s extremely important that you learn how to recognize and avoid malicious emails and steer clear of dangerous websites.
Unfortunately, regardless of how careful you might be in your handling of emails and avoidance of dangerous websites, there’s no guarantee that you won’t still find yourself with a malware infection.
Luckily, there are software solutions that can help prevent malware from finding its way onto your Mac and remove any malware that does manage to slip through. The potent combination of Avast Free Mac Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac will do a great job at keeping your Mac malware-free.
That takes care of your Mac. Now let’s talk about your iPhone and iPad…
I have some good news if you’re an Apple iOS user: Your iOS devices are more or less immune to actual viral infections for the reasons stated in this post.
But the above being said, you’ll still need to protect your iPhone and iPad by installing Lookout Mobile Security or another quality general security app.
And finally, it always pays to have a recent backup of your device just in case a malware infection (ransomware for instance) does manage to trash your device.
This post explains how to back up your Mac using its Time Machine backup utility.
