How to create a Desktop Shortcut for quickly launching the OnScreen Keyboard

Posted on June 16, 2017

Every now and then I receive messages asking me how to launch the OnScreen Keyboard on Windows machines that don’t have a touch screen.

There are several ways to activate the OnScreen Keyboard, but my favorite method is by simply clicking a desktop shortcut.

If you’d like to create a shortcut to the OnScreen Keyboard on your own computer, just follow the steps below:

1 – Right-click on the Desktop and select New>Shortcut from the drop-down menu.

2 – Copy and paste the following line into the “Location” field:

C:\Windows\System32\osk.exe

3 – Click Next.

4 – Type (or copy and paste) the following into the “Name” field:

OnScreen Keyboard

5 – Click Finish.

That’s all there is to it. From now on you’ll be able to quickly launch your PC’s OnScreen Keyboard simply by clicking the shortcut!

Bonus tip: This post explains how to create a desktop shortcut for quickly creating a System Restore Point.
