Question from Sara J.: I recently bought a new Windows 10 computer to replace my old Windows 7 machine.
Today I tried using my Lexmark printer with the new computer for the first time but it’s not working right.
When I try to print something the printer makes a clicking noise like it’s going to start printing but it never prints anything.
I think I might need to download a new printer driver but the latest driver that’s listed on the Lexmark website is for Windows 8.1.
Can you help me find a Windows 10 driver for this printer? It’s been a good one and I’d like to keep using it if I can.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Rick’s answer: This is a very common issue, Sara. There are millions of older printers out there that still don’t have Windows 10 drivers available for them, and many of them never will.
You didn’t specify the model of your Lexmark printer so I can’t give you a link to a specific download page.
But the above being said, the Windows 8.1 driver that’s available for your printer on the Lexmark website will probably work just fine with your Windows 10 installation. I recommend that you download it and give it a try.
At the driver level, Windows 8.1 is very similar to Windows 10 and most Windows 8.1 hardware drivers work just fine on a Windows 10 machine.
I hope this helps Sara. Good luck!
Update from Sara: You were right Rick. I downloaded the Windows 8.1 driver for my printer and it works perfectly. Thank again.
