Question from Kenny: Hi, Rick. I have a problem that I need help with.
I use Chrome as my main browser and it tends to load pages that have lots of photos at a snail’s pace.
I know this is a Chrome issue because the same pages load a lot faster in Edge and Firefox.
How can I make Chrome load photo-heavy pages faster than it does now? It’s my favorite browser by far, but this is driving me nuts!
Rick’s answer: Kenny, this is a known issue with Chrome, and there’s a simple solution that seems to work for most people. Try this and let me know how it goes:
1 – With the Chrome browser open, type (or copy and paste) the following into the address bar:
chrome://flags/#enable-gpu-rasterization
2 – If the GPU Rasterization feature is available on your platform (Chrome will tell you if it isn’t), toggle its state to Enabled.
3 – Exit Chrome and then relaunch it.
4 – Now visit one of the pages that was loading slowly before and see if it loads faster now. My guess is it will.
That’s all there is to it, Kenny. Please let me know if this works for you.
If this change doesn’t produce the results you’re looking for (or worse, if it breaks something), simply repeat the steps above and reverse the change you made in step #2.
Update from Kenny: That did help a lot. Pages with lots of images still load a little slower in Chrome than in my other browsers, but they load a LOT faster now than they did before. Thanks for your help.
