It seems like a new virus or trojan pops up every day, and they tend to get nastier as time goes on. The latest super-threat is the insidious Gameover Zeus virus.
Gameover Zeus is a particularly nasty form of malware. In addition to allowing other viruses (including the equally insidious CryptoLocker) to break into your system, it harvests every scrap of financial information it can find from your computer’s hard drive.
Approximately a quarter of a million people and institutions have fallen victim already, and the combined financial losses are staggering – and growing.
Luckily, thanks to our friends at the popular security firm F-Secure, you can find out in seconds whether your computer is infected with Gameover Zeus or not. All you have to do is visit this page on their website and it will automatically scan your system for the virus and let you know if it finds it.
If the F-Secure scan detects the Gameover Zeus malware on your system, I recommend that you remove whatever anti-virus software your system is currently using and replacing it with either F-Secure or Avast. Once your new anti-virus software is up and running, perform a “Full Scan” of your system to remove Gameover Zeus and any other malware that might be on there.
And finally, for good measure, I also recommend running “Full Scans” with the free versions of both Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy.
