Countless books and how-to articles have been written explaining how to take great photos, but in my opinion there is one photography tip that trumps all the rest…
Take LOTS of pictures!
Yes, it’s true that an experienced professional photographer can adjust a few camera settings and frame the shot based on little more than intuition, then come away with a winner after snapping just a few exposures.
But not everyone is a pro, and that’s fine. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to have others believing you might be a pro.
For the average person who just wants to return home with a few great vacation pictures or photograph the grandkids when they stop by for a visit, the best way to ensure that you take some keepers is to take lots of pictures…
And then take some more!
Trying to get by with just snapping a picture or two virtually guarantees that something will be amiss when you finally get home and view the images on your computer screen.
For example, the family picture that looked absolutely perfect on your camera’s tiny display actually caught Jr. with his eyes closed and Rover in the background chasing Fluffy around the living room. And you probably won’t even notice it until it’s too late to take another photo.
The nice thing about living in the digital age is we can take dozens of photos in just a few minutes, virtually guaranteeing that at least a few of them will turn out to be great captures. When it comes to photography, the “law of averages” works in reverse.
Bottom line: Take lots of pictures and you’ll have people thinking you’re a great photographer at the end of the day.
And now, one final recommendation…
Don’t share the “duds” with others – only share the keepers!
