It’s no secret that Amazon has great prices on literally millions of items in virtually every category known to man, but did you know that those prices often fluctuate, sometimes even hour to hour?
Well, it’s true. Amazon is constantly adjusting the prices of the items they have for sale on their site in order to remain competitive with other online stores. And if you play your cards right, it’s very possible to give yourself an automatic discount when you purchase products from Amazon by taking advantage of those fluctuations. Here’s how:
1 – Find an item (or items) on Amazon that you want to buy and place it/them in your shopping cart – but don’t check out right away!
2 – Go do something else for a while.
3 – Come back some time later (after an hour, after 6 hours, tomorrow?…) and refresh the page containing your Amazon shopping cart. The price in the shopping cart will automatically adjust to reflect the current price listed on the actual item page (if the price has changed of course).
4 – Take a look at the prices of the item in your shopping cart. Did one or more of the prices go down? If so, you might want to go ahead and claim the discount by checking out. Otherwise, you can always let the shopping cart sit idle for a while longer with the hope of seeing another price drop. Hey, it happens!
4 – Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 until the price(s) drop to a point where you feel ready to buy, then finish the checkout process.
Caveat: Of course there’s no guarantee that the price(s) of your item(s) will drop at all. In fact, there’s always a slight chance that it will actually go up. But on Amazon the vast majority of price changes result in lower prices, not higher ones. Unless you need the item(s) as soon as possible, it’s worth a shot in my humble opinion.
