A Powerline Ethernet Adapter kit is the perfect solution when you need to connect a computer to your home network in a distant room where the Wi-Fi signal is weak, and running an Ethernet cable would be difficult or impossible.
Simply plug one adapter into your router and a nearby electrical outlet and the other adapter into an outlet in the room where you need service, and you’re all set.
I recently had the opportunity to check out the TRENDnet Powerline 500 AV Nano Adapter Kit (#ad), and overall I really like it. TRENDnet is known for making high-quality, highly effective devices, and the Powerline 500 is one of the best I have ever used.
The kit includes two TPL-406E powerline adapters that operate at up to 200Mbps, twice the speed of a typical 100Mbps Ethernet connection. There is virtually no setup involved. Simply plug the adapters into electrical outlets and the router and PC, and you’re ready to get right to work. It really is that easy.
This kit comes with two adapters, but you can add up to seven more to connect eight devices to your network.
The adapters in the Powerline 500 kit aren’t perfect. They are a little bulkier than I would like, and they don’t include pass-through electrical outlets for powering additional devices from the wall outlet, but they work so well I can easily overlook those minor issues.
Bottom line: If you need to extend an Ethernet connection into a distant room (or even a garage or outbuilding), the TRENDnet Powerline 500 AV Nano Adapter Kit is a great way to do it without spending a small fortune or drilling holes in your walls, ceilings or floors.
