Question from Debbie: Hello, Rick. You seem to be an expert on all things Amazon so I’d like to ask you a question about it if you don’t mind.
I think I remember adding a gift card to my Amazon account a while back, but I don’t know how to check to see for sure.
Can you tell me what I need to do? I know it has to be really simple.
Rick’s answer: Debbie, I do love Amazon, and it seems like I always have a little bit of money available in my Amazon gift card account. I guess that’s why I catch myself checking my balance fairly often. To quickly check yours, simply follow the steps below that match your device.
If you shop Amazon in a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer:
1 – Visit www.Amazon.com and sign in to your account.
2 – Click the Gift Cards link that’s located on the menu just underneath the Search box.
3 – Click the View Your Balance link and you should see your gift card balance displayed on the page.
If you use the Amazon Shopping app on a smartphone or tablet:
1 – Open the Amazon app and sign in to your account.
2 – Tap the little “person” avatar at the bottom of the screen.
3 – Scroll down to the “Your Account” section and you’ll see you gift card balance listed there.
Note: The next time you make a purchase on Amazon, the money in your gift card account will automatically be applied towards the total amount due.
If the gift card balance isn’t enough to pay for the order in full, you’ll be prompted to pay the difference some other way (another Amazon gift card, a credit card, etc.).
Bonus tip: If you’re a regular reader of this blog you’ve surely noticed that I often recommend buying your tech gear from Amazon. This post explains why.
